Bus pick up is at Montgomery Community Centre Parking Lot.  Bus departs from Montgomery at 8:00 am sharp.

Biffy Break Elbow Valley Visitor Centre

Register at any time after 8pm on the Tuesday before the trip. PLEASE choose an activity option before pressing ‘Register’. Click on the Trip Location to get more details about the activity and a link to a trail map.  You can change your choice at any time on the website or on the bus.

If you are on the Wait List, it is assumed you want a seat on the bus if a vacancy happens.  You will automatically be moved onto the bus and will be responsible for the bus fare.  If you no longer wish to be on the Wait List, you must deregister either on the website before 8am on Sun morning or by contacting one of the Bus Registrars noted above.

Deregistrations after 8am on Sunday morning will not be possible on the website.  If you must deregister Sunday morning or later, please email or text one of the Bus Registrars noted above.  If there is someone on the Wait List who is able to fill your place then you will not be charged for your seat.  If there is no one able to fill your seat then you will be responsible for the Bus Fare.

Bus Fare $25 Please pay by Interac e-transfer to payments@soccalgary.com including the trip date or destination in the comments OR bring exact change or a cheque. If the trip is going into a National Park and you don’t have a current National Park pass, an extra $10 will be collected.

Bus is cancelled if less than 40 are registered on bus.  There may be other unforeseen reasons that trips may be cancelled or changed eg weather, trail closures, road conditions etc.

If you wish to drive yourself to the trailhead, please register with your choice of activity AND select the ‘Carpool’ box.  Be sure the hike you choose will get you back to your car!   If the trip is going into one of the parks, you are responsible for having a valid pass. You must sign the sign-up sheet at the trailhead.

Will allow approx. 5 hours hiking time.

Bear spray and hiking poles must have your name on them and MUST be stored under the bus. There is a box for bear spray in one of the bins.

HIKE NOTES/ADVISORIES

*** Alltrails maps are to be used for route finding purposes only.  The elevation gains on the maps are very often much more than those found in more reliable sources.  The gains posted on club descriptions should be a better indication of the real gain. *** 

First drop off will be at Elbow Falls then Paddy’s Flats.  First pick up at Paddy’s Flats then Elbow Falls.  Bus will stay at Paddy’s Flats

Hike 1 – ascend Prairie Mountain from Elbow Falls, walk along the ridge the drop down off the NW flank to a stream bed.  Follow the strema to Prairie Creek then turn left and return to the parking lot. Enjoy fantasitc views on top of Prairie Mtn!

Hike 2 – This is an out and back hike on Prairie Mtn.  Linger long and enjoy the views.

Hike 3 – Follow Powderface Creek to the junction with the Link trail which will take you across to Prairie Creek.  Follow Prairie Creek back to Elbow Falls.  You can do this either was – group leader’s choice.

Hike 4 – From Paddy’s Flats, start on the Elbow Valley Trail to the junction with Sulphur Springs Trail.  There is a lovely open meadow just after you cross Moose Mtn Rd and hike a bit past the parking lot.  Make a nice place for lunch.  Carry on across the junction with Elbow Valley Trail and cross the road a while later.  You will next be on the Riverview trail high above the Elbow River.  If you have time, enjoy a refreshing foot bath in the river before going back to the bus.  There should be spring flowers out on the open slopes.

Hike 5 – Start at Elbow Falls and follow the Elbow Valley Trail to Canyon Creek Rd.  Walk down the rd to Highway 66, along the highway a little to the pedestrian crosswalk where you will join the RiverviewTrail to Paddy’s Flats.  If you have time, enjoy a refreshing foot bath in the river before going back to the bus.
